History
After meeting David Anderson (also a native of Waterloo, Quebec, Canada) Maurice Singfield started a piano repair shop in the early 1980’s specializing in the restoration of pianos, player pianos, harmoniums and guitars.
Throughout the ‘80’s, the two of them built the piano shop into a viable business; rebuilding pianos for people not only in Quebec, but the United States and The Caribbean.
Not only do they rebuild piano actions, but restore piano cabinets to their original luster. With several coats of lacquer, and matching stains, the Singfield Piano is rubbed to perfection offering a stunning array of mat and shiny finishes.
Everything from Steinway grands to apartment size pianos are restored by the Waterloo experts, and they are especially proud of the player pianos and harmoniums they have done over the years.
Harmoniums such as “Grandma” (the one used by Roger Hodgson of Super Tramp fame; Sunnymead Archives), and the ones you find in old country churches, are restored regularly by Singfield & Anderson. Player pianos most commonly seen in the old western films, and depicted in countless animated cartoons are some of their most prized restorations.
Repairing pianos on location has become a specialty of the two technicians. Arriving at their customer’s house in the morning, the piano is usually repaired and tuned (sometimes including the finish touched-up) by the end of the working day.
Once, the two of them flew to the Caribbean island of Montserrat, with a portable spray system, supplies and tools, and restored a Steinway grand piano, 1904, in two weeks: taking the frame out of the piano; restringing the piano; repairing and refinishing the sound board, frame and cabinet; as well as rebuilding and adjusting the piano action.
Singfield & Anderson believe they can travel just about anywhere, and restore just about any piano. Don’t hesitate, give them a call and arrange your piano’s restoration.
