THE LINK80 TIMELINE
BIOGRAPHY
1994: Three friends get together to start a band in a garage in Richmond California. The band went through many name changes but settled on the name "Link 80". They figured that since they all lived in the Bay Area and got together by way of interstate 80, 80 was the all important link for the band.
1995: By the summer of '95, Link 80 aquired a small horn section and was experimenting with a couple local vocalists. Members ranged from 13 to 16 and took their summer to practice and record a 7" with another East Bay band. Later that year Nick Traina took over as lead singer for Link 80 and began to push the band harder. The lineup then was Joey (drums), Adam P. (bass), Matt (guitar), Aaron (trumpet), and Nick (vox).
1996: By mid '96, Link 80 was playing every weekend and traveling every vacation to spots within 300 miles of the Bay Area. They all still attended high school but spent all free time playing with the band. They recorded another split 7" w/ local punkers Subincision, and their own 'Remember How it Used to Be' 7". In March, Link 80 opened for Skankin' Pickle and developed a relationship with their singer Mike Park. Park was currently running their own Dill records but soon separated from the band and started Asian Man Records. In the summer of 1996, Link 80 recorded a full length for Asian Man at the Art of Ears and Fantasy studios. When recording was finished they left for their first U.S. tour. " 1 7 Reasons" was released in September of '96 and has since sold over 21,000 copies.
1997: Touring continued on and off throughout the '97 school year and in April, Link 80 returned to Fantasy to record the EP "Killing Katie". On June 13 th , Link 80 would leave for their second U.S. tour, this one booked by the Ozark Talent agency. They would play 35 shows in 22 states. 8/2/97- The morning after a great show in Milwaukee the band split with Nick and returned home a week early. Immediately upon their return they began the search for a new lead singer while Nick went his separate way. On September 20th he passed away. The bands roady at the time, Stoney, assumed the position of lead singer and the band left 4 months later to tour with the new lineup.
1998: With all members finally out of High School, Link 80 continues to tour full time.
1999: Link 80, who now age from 19-23, have completed 7 U.S. tours, 2 East Canadian Tours, a 6 week tour t4oughout Northern Europe. The current lineup is Joey(drums), Adam P. (bass), Aaron (trumpet), Jason (bari sax), Stoney (vox), Adam D. (guitar), and Steve (tenor sax).
