Eleanore Altman is an award-winning singer, songwriter, composer and playwright and at the age of 26 is preparing to release her first studio album for Radio Communautaire Missisquoi. A native of Montreal, Eleanore studied voice with Beverley McGuire, and with Colette Boky at the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM). She has been a soloist in performances of The Magic Flute, Carmen, and Jephte. She has performed at Centre Pierre-Peladeau, Place Des Arts (Montreal), the Gerald W. Lynch Theater (New York), and the Berklee Performance Center (Boston). Her film and television credits include Voices of a New Generation (Amerimage/Spectra) and CQ2 (Alliance/Atlantis). Eleanore has received songwriting awards from the Berklee World Scholarship Tour, Song of the Year, and the International Songwriting Competition. She is the composer of original scores for stage productions of Mother Courage and Her Children and A Few Good Men.

Eleanore holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from McGill University. Along with her passion for music, she has a committed interest in philosophy and criminal justice. She currently lives in New York where she is completing a master’s degree program in forensic psychology at John Jay College. She is an auxiliary police officer with the NYPD and is interning at the New York City Department of Probation.

Eleanore is the 2008 winner of the Radio Communautaire Missisquoi Stop! Competition, and as a result received the opportunity to record her first studio album, collaborating with musicians Aaron Saloman (www.aaronmusic.com) and Denis Richard (www.denisrichardjr.com). The album, entitled Degrees of Freedom, has a wide range of musical influences, and several of its songs incorporate themes from classical and folk music. The planned release date is summer of 2009.
