Arnold Davis
The rolling hills of home seem to inspire the song-writing and guitar-playing talent of Arnold Davis. After breaking a 10-year musical hiatus in 1999, with "Mansonville" - a tape with nine songs "written along the way," - the Potton native has turned out his first compact disk, entitled, "Take a Walk with Me."
The CD, which includes a basic touch of rock, country, blues "and even a lively steppin' jig thrown in to round out the variety," features 13 tunes - "some new, some old" - including two instrumentals.
Davis was born in Highwater in 1940. A quiet man, he enjoys musical expression and the reward of having his compositions heard. His musical career includes thirty years of travel in bands all over the country, always with a guitar close by and a repertoire of popular country and rock tunes. "It was mostly on the Northern Circuit ," he said, "in places in Ontario and in Northern Quebec."
Davis also played lead guitar and "did a little singing with Floyd and Joan Country" - a local quintet, named the best country band in Quebec, in 1981.
Even before his first cassette in 1999, Davis' music had been pressed in vinyl. But that was many moons ago, he says, and for those recordings he was one artist among many. Today, he flies solo.
All songs on the CD are his creations, with the exception of 'I Still Have Someone' (words and music by Ronald Schoolcraft) and 'Your Search is Over' (words by Arnold Wheeler, music by Davis).
